There are few musical experiences as rare as Maihar Dhrupad. The vocal roots of the Rampur–Maihar Senia Gharana — one of the most influential lineages in the history of Indian classical music — have all but disappeared, leaving behind a tradition on the edge of living memory. Gaayatri stands as the last pure vocalist trained directly in this style by Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, in an unbroken line of transmission tracing back through Ustad Allauddin Khan to Mian Tansen and the great Naad Yogi Swami Haridas. In this immersive program, she brings that tradition to life — presenting Dhrupad not as a historical artifact, but as a living, breathing act of devotion, where rāga unfolds with the stillness, purity, and transformative resonance that has defined the Senia aesthetic for centuries.
